The Tree Room

My husband and I made this for his brother and my SIL for their Squam Lake House (think On Golden Pond).  They have a bedroom in their lake house dominated by a canopy bed made from wood with a rough hand-hewn look. The bed has inspired the rest of the room's furniture and decor with a warm feeling of a cozy cabin.  They call it the Tree Room.

The log cross section the sign is on was given to me by my sister's husband in Iowa.  His neighbor had cut it from a downed tree.  It was one of dozens cut think like this to be used in a really cute DIY table center piece arrangement for a niece's wedding last summer in Missouri.  Cuttings like this cross section from a tree were laid on tan burlap covering tables at the reception. On top of the wood cutting were Mason jars with candles and flowers cut from the groom's parent's massive flower garden.

So now this piece of wood has a new life in a new New Hampshire bedroom.  The words on the Tree Room sign, as well as the pieces "underlining" the words, were all small drift wood pieces found in a little cove off Lake Champlain in the southern part of Burlington, Vermont.  So this sign is truly the result of our travels to Iowa, Missouri, Vermont, and now has found a home in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire on the shores of Squam Lake.

Folking Bird Baths

I made several of these from vases, bowls and plates. They were all different and very colorful.
